OMG Teach Me the Success Secrets We Never Learned in School

We learned the facts. We went to school. We got the job. We started the business. When did we learn how to believe in our own success or how to nourish our bodies with movement, healthy food, and powerful thoughts so we could achieve that success? When did we learn the mental and physical habits that actually make a huge difference? How about we do that now? Living well involves keeping both your mind and your body at their best - and traditionally we just aren’t learning all of that. As a corporate trainer/former teacher, network marketing leader and certified Leadership and Life Coach, I’ve learned and taught vital lessons about creating a happy and successful life (while still having fun!). I’ve coached people to get out of their own way, to learn to feel their emotions in a way that is powerful and healing, and to move forward in their lives from stuck to success. I’m here to share with you the pieces you’ve been missing, and we’ll all learn together from guests along the way. Whether you’ve heard any of these tips before or never had the opportunity, oh my goodness, let’s keep learning how to do life differently. We rush at a FAST pace through our tasks and our days sometimes.  We open a message or an email, take a quick look, fire off a reply, and move on.

But then there are misunderstandings, or no one has answered the full set of questions, or you provide the wrong thing... the list goes on.

What if we take a breath, calm ourselves a tiny bit, then open and read the next message with a little more focus? It saves a lot of time in the long run.

Rest.  It's a popular topic today, especially in a world where we are often overwhelmed and overstimulated with work, with environmental stimuli, with people (or people-ing as my friend likes to say).

Cherry Poon-Crowie joins me today to share with us what the seven types of rest are and why they make a powerful difference in our bodies, our emotions, and our mental state.

We know we need to rest, but what if laying on the couch watching Netflix is not actually the rest our bodies need?

We may need sensory rest, physical rest, emotional rest, social rest, mental rest, creative rest or spiritual rest.  Walk through these types of rest with us and choose your top 3 that will be powerful in your life.

And Cherry gives some great advice for helping people who are going through grief or trauma or major life events like a new baby.

Check these out...
If you love the idea of noise-cancelling earplugs that allow you some sensory and social rest like Cherry mentioned, check out Loop on Amazon.

Credit cards, minimum payments, credit card debt, interest rates... ahhhh!
Let's take five minutes and make it all make sense.
Credit cards are powerful financial tools, and at the same time they can cost you a lot of extra money if you aren't paying bills on time and if you are only making the minimum payment.

If this has intrigued you, listen to the series on money, OMG Teach Me episode 29 on budgeting and episode 30 on money mindset.

A year ago, I started a podcast.  I love it.  I'm thrilled to have done it.  And yet, I started without any idea of how it would go and where I would be after a year.

Every time we start a new business or a new hobby or try a new activity or learn a new concept, we learn lessons that apply to all different parts of life.  This week I'm sharing what I've learned in a year of podcasting, and how those lessons will matter for you.

Let's talk about:
Perspective - there are many different ways to look at things;
Accepting compliments - you want to do it well;
Social media is not the be all end all;
Amazing people doing amazing things can be a valuable part of your life;
It's ok to get loud or silly when excited; and
They key to success is to START.

Make sure to check out the episodes I mentioned!  My coaches Jillie and Karen were my guests on episodes 48 and 30, respectively.  Find links to your favorite podcast app and the latest episodes at www.omgteachme.com/podcast.

I'm taking inspiration from Nate Bargatze today!  He recently talked about having to pay more attention to what he eats now that he's in his 40s... because what we eat really affects how we feel.
Yes.  That's true.
Let's talk about the ways we might justify how we're feeling instead of realizing that a certain food or drink or habit could have caused it.  The most important thing is understanding how different foods affect your own body - and your energy level and sleep as well.  Then you get to decide.

Make sure to listen to episode 46 on gluten for lots more information on the idea of being gluten free, who might want to do that, and where gluten comes from.

Ep. 52: Are you REALLY hungry?

Tuesday Mar 26, 2024

Tuesday Mar 26, 2024

There are five types of hunger... and four of them are emotional hunger.

Jennifer Dent Brown, Health and Life Coach, joins me today to walk through what hunger feels like and how to recognize the type of hunger you are feeling.

We dive into the idea that no foods are off-limits and you can decide individually what foods give you energy and what foods create sluggishness for you.

We're talking about weight loss drugs and the pitfalls that may happen when we use only those drugs as a solution and we don't address our emotional eating issues.

Eating with intention is key.  If you want to eat something, do it! Just know why.

OMG Take Five: Go Outside

Friday Mar 22, 2024

Friday Mar 22, 2024

It's healthy to go outside - even for a few minutes - even right where you are.
More time and more greenery (lake or beach, anyone?) is even better!
Let's talk about why just stepping out of doors is so powerful for your brain, your body, your heart, and your sleep.
Step outside for your health.

It's week 3 of our three week *know yourself* series!
This week is about one of my favorite ways to understand our personalities, motivations, and fears... and that is the enneagram.  Take a look at the picture below as you listen in today.

Wendy Montgomery, Life Coach, joins me today to walk through each of the 9 enneagram types.  We're adding special emphasis on the core fears, core motivations, wounding messages, and healing messages for each type - and I believe this is where you'll get some powerful information helping you to recognize yourself and your loved ones.

The enneagram can inform your decision making, your relationships, and your self image.  If you think you've recognized yourself in one or a few of these types, make sure to reach out to Wendy at www.wendymontgomery.com or on social media at @wendymontcoach on Instagram or Facebook.  Wendy recommends the IEQ9 Enneagram test and can connect you with the information.

Robin S sings, "Words are so easy to say... You've got to show me love!"
How do you show love (or appreciation or friendship)?
Often we express our love in the ways that we like to receive love.  It's so much more powerful and meaningful if we express love in the way that the other person best feels and receives it.
And that brings us to Gary Chapman's Five Love Languages:
Words of Affirmation
Quality Time
Receiving Gifts
Acts of Service
Physical Touch
This week we're talking about what each of these love languages means, how to figure out what your own primary love language is, and how to express yourself to others with these languages.
Make sure to go to www.5lovelanguages.com for resources to find out your love language.  Grab the main love language book at www.omgteachme.com/read.
